Derrick Peyton is a wonderful and extremely likable character. He’s a hard-working guy, placed in a difficult situation, who’s trying his utmost to do the right thing by his family, his company, and his employees. This man had backstabbing staff, demanding customers and problems galore coming at him from all angles. I admired the way he kept a cool head, took care of things in a fair and accommodating way, yet didn’t let people walk all over him. If you have worked in the retail industry, you will love this book. I certainly felt as though I have met or known almost every customer and staff member Mr. Lucero described.
If you have ever been a customer in a store (so that would be, ah…basically everyone) this story will resonate with, and perhaps even enlighten you.
If you are one of those customers who succumb to the magical powers I believe are emitted by those electronic sliding doors at the entrance to most retail establishments, turning sane people into raging (insert bad word here), please read this book. It will give you an insight into the trials of those people on the inside wearing the matching shirts, who are really not enemy #1.

Who’s Minding The Store is an insightful look inside the retail industry. It is a well-written and humorous story. And a very entertaining read.

This book was a joy to read and should be considered required reading for all retail shoppers, especially those that demand "immediate satisfaction!"

Most of the novel is narrated through the eyes of the protagonist, Derrick Payton, and by the end of the first chapter you begin to feel for him. When the world of retail is stacked against him, Derrick keeps a cool head and forges on.

If you have ever worked in the retail, service or hospitality industry then have a few laughs and read 'Who's Minding the '. Who hasn't worked with someone they refer to as the 'Wicked Witches of the West'?
What a surprising delight! David Lucero masterfully wrangles absolute retail chaos into an absolutely entertaining novel full of sass and humor.

Derrick Payton, assistant manager, just received a huge promotion. He's the new manager of a local branch of The Design -a one-stop-shop for all home remodeling needs.

And while this promotion is something he's been waiting on for years, there are a few strings attached...or should I say chains?

Corporate wants to close Derrick's store and is giving him one last chance to save his (and everyone else's) job.

Derrick going to have to pull through this by the skin of his teeth - because no one, not the staff, not the customers and even not the CEOs will hold him back from turning this store around.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. I found it to be hilarious and heartwarming with enough petty revenge to keep me satisfied for a lifetime. This is definitely one for the ages!
This book is laugh therapy for anyone who has worked retail. A good read for anyone who has ever had to follow "the customer is always right" code.
Easy 5 star rating! If you have ever worked in retail you will love this book. David hits the nail on the head. The story and characters were fabulous. I worked in retail for over 15 years and I can easily see these scenarios happening. You have got to read it! I couldn't put the book down because I just wanted to see what new customer complaint Derrick Peyton had to deal with. I recommend this book to my family and friends and to anyone who has worked in retail. Great Book David!!
Knowing very well how dynamic the retail world can get, I totally appreciated this chaotic story about a store chain culture "gone bad" and how a star employee tries to turn it around.

It provides a lesson to retail managers on the importance of running a tight ship and how managers need to raise the bar and challenge status quo when it comes to morale, motivation and facing a tough business. Lots of fun to read as most people can relate to situations mentioned in the book, if they've ever worked the crazy, entertaining world of retail!
This was a wonderful novel. Every person that's involved with retail sales, both as an employee and a manager should have this as mandatory reading. It is a warm, funny, sad and will pull emotion from you just when you least expect it. The domestic setting will fool you. This is a fast paced page turner just like David Lucero's international novels, with ever bit the punch. Can't wait for you next!
This story was outstanding, writing about retail store environment having experience it myself as a second job how customers could be with all the headaches that come along with these jobs could be overwhelming, you certainly need a lot of patience and charisma. I really enjoyed David Lucero accurate details and well written story of reality about how hard the managers and all the sales employers could go through every detailed was a page- turner and hilarious. I recommend this book, it’s an awesome story.
